StorySlam Oakland

  • The Sound Room 3022 Broadway Oakland, CA, 94611 United States (map)

StorySlam Oakland is Oakland's longest-running true storytelling show, where people tell short and true stories from their lives. Or just listen and laugh.

Each month there is a theme and a featured performer.

With Thanksgiving & the holidays upon us, family matters. Come join us and tell your story.

Put your name in the hat when you come in, for a chance to be picked to tell your story. Remember, open-mic stories must be 5 to 6 minutes or less, no notes and no reading allowed. Just tell it like you’re telling friends around a dinner table.

We have a special treat for you: Inanc will be hosting this show with the fabulous and charismatic Idrissa Lattier, who has told stories with us before and has hosted her own storytelling show in Richmond, Purple Stories. Our featured storyteller this month is Matthew Green.

Matthew is a lifelong storyteller and creative wanderer whose journey has flowed through many forms of art and expression. He’s been a Hollywood film editor, a psych tech in Vegas, a stay-at-home dad to two amazing daughters, a stand-up comic, and even a winery hand on California’s Central Coast. An MFA graduate from Antioch University, Matthew crafts both fiction and narrative nonfiction, where dark comedy meets the surreal and the unseen edges of the world shimmer through. We can't wait to hear what Matthew's family story will be!
