Angela LaFlamme: Wild Women of the Blues

  • The Sound Room 3022 Broadway Oakland, CA, 94611 United States (map)

Angela LaFlamme's Wild Women of The Blues is an evocative musical tribute that brings to life the stories and songs of legendary blues and jazz artists. With a voice that channels the raw emotion of Etta James, the soulful depth of Billie Holiday, and the powerful presence of Big Mama Thornton, LaFlamme offers a captivating performance that honors these trailblazing women. Her repertoire also includes the timeless works of Alberta Hunter and other iconic figures, as well as her own original songs, weaving a rich tapestry of music and storytelling. Through this show, LaFlamme not only celebrates the enduring legacy of these artists but also keeps their voices alive for new generations of listeners.

Angela LaFlamme heads up a six-piece band from San Francisco that deftly re-imagines some of our favorite music from ’20s through the ’00s into her own swinging sound.

Angela LaFlamme: vocals

“A fantastic band… sexy and sleek.” —Huffington Post

Being drawn into a new and curious dimension by the magic of film, books, poetry or music and years of studying the tarnished elegance of Billie Holiday, the whimsical smirk of Fats Waller, the full throttle kick of Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and the gritty beautiful longings of Tom Waits, LaFlamme has found a way to tell her own stories.
